Supporting Local Communities CHEP is committed to supporting the communities we operate in and provides financial and other forms of support to a broad range of charitable and community organisations around the world. CHEP & Intongela Primary School Deep in a valley of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa is a primary school trying to combat illiteracy in a poor and HIV/AIDS ridden rural community.Intongela Primary School is supported by the national Department of Education however the needs of the children and the community cannot be met by this Department alone.Through a Corporate and Social Responsibility initiative, CHEP has partnered with the school since 1999 to provide assistance by:Installing classrooms, an administration block, toilet/wash facilities, electricity, portable water, fencing and gates and a school signDonating computers, printers and the cost of training programmesHosting sports events with Westville Boys High schoolBuilding fully equipped Laboratory and Library/Resource classroomsDonation of books by employees for the new LibraryProviding extra lessons in EnglishConstructing an assembly structureDonating a uniform and a pair of shoes for each childVolunteering and teaching by CHEP employeesCHEP is in the position to make a real difference to the lives of many youngsters and feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with both staff and children at Intongela Primary School.CHEP strongly believes in acting responsibly as a company and in helping local communities where possible.Watch the video - CHEP in South Africa CHEP & Białowieża Orphanage in Poland CHEP is passionate about sustainability and our communities, which is why we are only sending e-christmas cards. We want to donate the money saved by printing and posting Christmas cards to the children of Białowieża Orphanage in Poland, who designed our cards. The Białowieża Orphanage is home to 30 children from the ages of 1 to 17 years old.Our team in Poland has spent time at the orphanage building a variety of CHEP bought tables, chairs and cabinets. We painted walls and decorated doors, creating clean, bright and comfortable child-friendly bedrooms and living areas. Whilst work took place, the children were not forgotten - they were entertained with a day of fun-filled activities, playing games, baking cakes and painting.Our team in Poland are continuing to support the orphanage in every way they can, helping to organise charity action and generate awareness in local communities and business.The money donated by CHEP's Christmas card fund will go a long way to helping the orphanage to create a fun, comfortable and safe environment for the children who live there. CHEP & Big Brothers Big Sisters (BFBS) in USA For CHEP, sustainability is more than just our environmental impact. It also includes our belief that we should give back to our communities and invest in the future through supporting our nation's youth. CHEP sponsors events and fund raising drives throughout the year for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, as well as Junior Achievement. CHEP also provides one fully paid volunteer day to all employees.For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BGBS) has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation's largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers ("Bigs") and children ("Littles"), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. BGBS develops positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.Junior Achievement (JA) empowers young people to own their economic success. Their volunteer-delivered, K-12 programs foster work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills, and use experiential learning to inspire kids to dream big and reach their potential. Junior Achievement impacts 4 million U.S. students in more than 173,000 classrooms. With the help of 171,000 volunteers, JA students develop the skills they need to experience the realities and opportunities of work and entrepreneurship in the 21st-century global marketplace. CHEP & ‘Helping Hand’ in Australia & New Zealand CHEP Australia Helping Hand program is a charitable giving initiative that financially supports the causes that are important to CHEP employees.With a total of $50,000 to distribute each year, the committee of volunteers from CHEP's national workforce has the privilege of choosing seven organisations each quarter to receive funding.To support the volunteering policy, CHEP Australia launched its "Helping Hand" program in March 2011. Employees that have a direct or ongoing active interest in an activity or cause that benefits the broader community have the opportunity to apply for funding. Each year, CHEP Australia will provide a total of A$50,000 through the program.In New Zealand, CHEP employees have contributed donations to various appeals, most notably a joint donation with Brambles of $100,000 to the Christchurch earthquake appeal, and $7,900 to "The Hearing House", a provider to the Northern Cochlear Implant program. In Kind in Australia From time to time, CHEP also provides pallets and containers free of charge to transport emergency supplies for relief efforts in times of disaster. CHEP & The Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust In New Zealand CHEP is a financial sponsor of ARHT, the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust, the charitable trust that owns and operates the Westpac Rescue Helicopters based in Auckland. Volunteering Leave Under CHEP's volunteering program, CHEP employees receive paid leave to encourage their involvement in community and environmental activities. Employees can take paid leave to volunteer at a community-based, not-for-profit, educational or environmental organisation of their choice - with a focus on education, young people and the environment.
