Supporting fresher, faster and safer supply chains together with Brisbane Markets

CHEP Australia were proud to once again sponsor the annual Brisbane Produce Market Forklift Operator of the Year competition 2019

Over the past 30 years, CHEP and the Brisbane Markets have developed a strong partnership that continues to bring together key players in the fruit and vegetable industry - including growers, wholesalers and buyers, to unlock supply chain efficiencies.

By selecting CHEP as their preferred supply chain solutions partner, members of the Brisbane Markets® have access to the widest range of sustainable platforms and a supportive network. They have been able to reduce waste and costs; improve sales by delivering higher quality and fresher produce that lasts longer on shelf; and reduce product damage through safer handling.  The reduction in manual handling also reduces the risk of worker injuries.

To commemorate this long-standing partnership, CHEP Australia were proud to once again sponsor the annual Brisbane Produce Market Forklift Operator of the Year competition 2019. This event runs over six weeks and provides drivers with the opportunity to display both their skills in precision driving and the safe handling of pallets. As CHEP is collaborating with Fresh Markets Australia (FMA) to launch more efficient and environmentally sustainable reusable solutions in the coming months across all states, CHEP’s Reusable Plastic Containers (RPCs) were featured in the competition for the first time this year.  RPCs are specifically designed for the fresh product supply chain, ensuring optimal performance from field to point-of-sale by providing better protection to fresh products during storage and transport compared to cardboard.

Brisbane Markets® Communications Manager, Luke Leeson, said “We’re delighted to have CHEP on board to invest in this event as the platinum sponsor. With the support of our supply chain partners including CHEP, it was great to recognise the skills of forklift drivers on site as they play a vital role in the safe handling of fresh produce within the markets.”

Mr Leeson said that focusing on safety at the markets in this way raises people’s awareness and encourages safe behaviour at work.

Naa Finau from Nutrano Produce Group was the proud winner of the 2019 Forklift Operator of the Year title with a cash prize of $5000. As one of the 10 finalists, Mr Finau demonstrated exemplary forklift operating skill and safety awareness during the competition.

Simon Johnson, Senior Manager, Crate Solutions at CHEP Australia, said “We’re thrilled to be involved in this year’s event. With Brisbane Markets® having such a high concentration of forklift operators, this is a valuable event to promote the message of safety. This event also aligns strongly with our commitment to build safer, smarter working environments with our customers.”

CHEP continues to drive pallet and other platform standards including Reusable Plastic Containers (RPCs) and Foldable Bins, that connect businesses across the supply chain to maximise efficiencies and safety.
