Supporting Local Communities

Making a Difference to Local Communities Across Australia

As a Brambles company, CHEP contributes positively to the communities in which we operate by supporting food security and food waste initiatives, education, environmental restoration programs, and by encouraging our people to participate in local community initiatives.

Our 2025 sustainability vision is to Pioneer Regenerative Supply Chains

At Brambles, we are working to help create a nature positive economy with re-use, resilience and regeneration at its core. It’s how we can create more natural and social value than we use, while bringing emissions down to zero as soon as possible. We’re setting the ambition to pioneer truly regenerative supply chains. It means breaking the link between consumption and harm to the environment and society. And it means moving from degenerative systems that waste resources to regenerative models that restore nature and strengthen society; in other words, putting back in more than we take from the world. By reaching zero impact and beyond, we’ll be the company delivering the supply chains the world needs for the future.

Brambles also provides 3 days volunteering leave to all permanent employees each year and our goal is to ensure all 3 days are used per employee every year to maximise our contribution to the community.

Supporting Communities: In-kind contributions

We partner with local and global organisations by supplying our reusable platforms such as pallets, Reusable Plastic Containers (RPCs) and intermediate bulk containers, as well as the expertise of our people.

Provision of platforms helps our charity partners achieve their aims by lowering operating costs, putting much needed funds to the frontline.

Employees are also provided with volunteer opportunities to help our charities with requirements ranging from logistics planning and network collaboration to packing food hampers for those in need.

In FY20, CHEP Australia donated approximately AU$3,538,271 through in-kind donation.

Bushfire Relief Efforts in Australia

Australia experienced unprecedented megafires during the 2019/2020 summer which burnt more than 12 million hectares over four months.

During the Christmas holiday break CHEP Australia's Supply Chain team immediately answered a call to action to support the Bush Fire Relief efforts including some CHEP employees volunteering with emergency services. CHEP Australia in partnership with Foodbank, supplied 500 pallets and 1,100 bins into warehouses across three bushfire ravaged states to receive the significant volume of community and CHEP customer food donations for the purposes of creating emergency food relief packages. In March alone, 473,000kgs of food and groceries were delivered to bushfire affected areas.

Restoring the foundations of endangered woodland community in Cooma

As part of National Volunteer Week in 2021, our employees joined our sustainability partner, Landcare Australia, to plant 4,500 native trees and shrubs near Cooma in the upper snowy region of NSW.

Efforts from volunteers over the two day event helped mark a major milestone in the inaugural CHEP Australia Land Management and Sustainable Agriculture Landcare Grant project to restore the foundations of a critically endangered woodland community on five hectares of a historic grazing property off the Snowy Mountains Highway.

Thank you to all the volunteers from CHEP, Landcare, Upper Snowy Landcare Network, and Creativelines Pty Ltd who were able to support this great program and the regeneration of Australia’s valuable land and water assets.
