A packaging solution to speed up logistic
Nissan Casting Australia P/L (NCA) produces a wide range of Aluminum castings for the Global Automotive Industry. NCA won a contract in 2011 to produce the inverter case and inverter water jacket and cover for electric vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf, 2013 and e-NV200 van. A cost competitive packaging solution needed to protect the castings from damage. In particular the large machined sealing surfaces. The castings also need to be kept free from dirt and dust since they were to be assembled in clean room conditions. No load could be transferred through the part, so load needed to be through the packaging only. The challenge was further complicated by the sharp and rough edges of the castings.
Being an International supply chain, CHEP needed to come up with a pack that was efficient in shipping, warehousing and storage with minimal handling...
