Johnson & Johnson and CHEP: 10 years of commitment to sustainability

Thanks to CHEP’s pooling system, J&J has reduced its costs and environmental impact.

Madrid, 11 April, 2018: Johnson & Johnson—a consumer goods company focused on the health and personal care sector—and CHEP—a supply chain solutions company—continue to strive for sustainability as one of the key aspects of their business.

Having worked with Johnson & Johnson for ten years, the achieved results demonstrate the benefits of using CHEP pallets within the context of both brands’ commitment to sustainability.

Javier Garcia Garcia, Trade Customization Coordinator for Iberia at Johnson & Johnson, said: “For J&J, working with CHEP means a significant standardisation of pallet flows throughout the whole supply chain process, and better pallet stock control at all times. Aside from the logistical advantages that this brings, we must highlight the reduction in costs as a result of pallet reuse. Furthermore, thanks to our collaboration with CHEP, we have reduced our environmental footprint and are taking steps towards achieving the sustainability targets set out in our ’Health for Humanity 2020 Goals’ plan.”

In order to measure this impact, CHEP has commissioned a Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) of its pallets, which covers various phases including the production, transport and recycling of the pallets. Using this analysis, CHEP can quantify the environmental savings made by each of its customers in terms of CO2 emissions, water and timber consumption, and waste production.

As it is strongly committed to protecting the environment, Johnson & Johnson wants to reduce its CO2 emissions and other environmental impacts. The use of CHEP pallets has helped it reduce CO2 emissions by 1,139 tonnes, timber consumption by 948 m³ and waste production by 86,783 kg over the last 7 years.
