United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Poland, Belgium, France and Italy individually accredited due to excellent employee conditions and HR practices
Weybridge, 25 January 2021 – CHEP, the supply chain solutions company, has been certified as a 2021 Top Employer in Europe for the fourth year in a row with United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Poland, Belgium, France and Italy being individually accredited by the Top Employers Institute (TEI), a global certifier recognising excellence in employee conditions.
Top Employers Institute CEO David Plink says: “Despite the challenging year we have experienced (which has certainly made an impact on organisations around the globe), CHEP has continued to demonstrate the power of putting their people first in the workplace. We are proud to share this year’s announcement and congratulate the organisations who have been certified in their respective countries through the Top Employers Institute programme.”
The Top Employers Institute programme certifies organisations based on the results of their HR Best Practices Survey. This survey covers six HR domains consisting of 20 topics such as People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Well-being and Diversity & Inclusion and more. TEI only recognises organisations that achieve the highest standards of excellence in employee conditions.
CHEP’s employee conditions and HR practices define their ‘Better Workplace’ pillar, as part of their 2020 Sustainability Goals, with a special focus on Inclusion & Diversity (I&D). “The Top Employer Accreditation is incredibly important to us, especially in a complex year like this”, said Piers Hollier, Vice President, Human Resources, CHEP Europe. “A ‘Better Workplace’ has taken on a new meaning during the pandemic and has become a source of stability for our people amidst ongoing uncertainty”.
A key component to the company’s I&D programme is Gender. In the last year, CHEP achieved 36% of female employees in management roles in Europe, and 31% globally. The company continues to be an active member of LEAD, an organisation committed to building more gender balance in the retail, FMCG and supply chain industries.
“Our Inclusion & Diversity vision is to harness the power of our diversity and build a truly inclusive environment that fuels innovation, growth and agility”, explains Hollier. “We are proud of the progress made in the Gender field so far, but we now want to go a step further, achieving at least 40% women in management roles by 2025 and doubling female employees in our plant roles. Moreover, we aim at becoming one of the top inclusive companies to work for and are currently working on an accessibility programme for Europe, tackling several areas such as Disability, Multigenerational workforce, LGBTIQ+ or Race”.
