Case Study: A Way to Lower Waste

Reduce, reuse, recycle

Pooling equipment cuts waste in multiple ways. It’s based on repair and reuse, and CHEP will collect all your pallets, including any that are damaged, so you don’t need to worry about waste wood at all.

What’s more, our managed pooling services reduce other, less obvious forms of waste. For example, our quality assurance cuts the risk of product damage and food waste, and with it the emissions required to replace and redeliver goods.

It’s inherently sustainable

The CHEP pallet lifecycle reduces waste wood and the amount of wood in pallet manufacture. A CHEP pallet will last up to 10 times longer than the white-wood equivalent, according to independent, peer-reviewed research*. This is partly because it’s designed to be durable and partly because it’s continually inspected and repaired as part of the managed pooling service.

When a CHEP pallet can no longer be repaired, 100% is recycled

All our timber comes from forests certified sustainable by two leading international standards bodies: the Forest Stewardship Council and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification.

We make sure that none of our waste wood ends up as landfill. CHEP also incorporates waste-wood fibres from its sawmills and service centres into composite blocks for use in pallet repair, saving the equivalent of 4,000 trees per year.
