ALKA begins collaboration with CHEP, the world leader in pallet logistics solutions
Following the inauguration of the new warehouse in Mogosoaia in 2016, Alka begins to collaborate with CHEP, the world leader in logistics solutions for pallet hire, to simplify and streamline logistics processes. Thus, Alka takes a new step towards modernization by investing in quality infrastructure.
In Romania, Alka distributes pallet loads to 20 modern trading platforms, 30 Distributor Partners and 10 own work points. Overall, Alka products are delivered in over 20,000 locations throughout the country.
"The need to simplify our processes and reduce costs has become more prominent with the Alka Group's organic development, so we have made the decision to pass the pallet management to CHEP. The white pallet exchange system is difficult to manage and involves many hidden costs, such as the purchase of new pallets to replace lost or damaged ones, high recovery times, and more. We are convinced that only by specialization we are able to perform in a certain field. Thus, CHEP offers more expertise and a more efficient solution in the field of pallet logistics, and Alka will focus on the strategic directions of activity - product development, high standard production, quality sales and distribution, and marketing for its own brands, "said Ady Hirsch, CEO Alka.
The debut of the negotiations between CHEP and ALKA took place in the spring of 2014. The main challenge was the integration of all elements specific to the ALKA logistic chain (its fleet of trucks, the distribution list profile - modern trade vs. traditional trade vs. export, warehouses in the country, etc.) in one of the three services offered on the Romanian market by CHEP representatives. "After a lengthy negotiation process, successfully completed, the feeling was that both sides were self-indulged in the efforts and resources invested in this project. It has been proved that the correct identification of the conditions for further collaboration has also turned into a personal goal of everyone. What gives us extraordinary satisfaction! We are determined to grow together: we will also support our new ALKA plant in Ploiesti, which will strengthen the position of both companies in the Romanian FMCG, bringing major benefits to the entire logistics chain in which we operate! ", says Gabriel Andronescu , CEO of CHEP Romania.
"With CHEP, we will have a better supply chain, a natural flow in one direction, from the production area to the customer. This new stream allows for sustainable development. The CHEP business model through shared use is based on reuse, recycling and continuous waste reduction - these are clear social responsibility goals for Alka, "said Cristi Petcu, Deputy Director, Alka Trading.
The Alka Group was established in 1994 as a greenfield investment. Alka was then the first company in Romania to produce and distribute coffee ground coffee packed and vacuumed in sachets.
Currently, Alka Group's business covers many categories, with presence throughout and outside Romania. The company's portfolio consists of: Sweet Cakes (House Cake), Sweet Biscuits (House Biscuits), Alfers, Salty Snacks (Toortize, House Covers), Coffee (Gold Mocca and Stretto). The company is also the importer and distributor of Perfetti Van Melle products for the Chupa Chups and Mentos brands. Through its work, Alka collaborates directly and indirectly with tens of thousands of partners across the country.
