Together with our project partners we have managed to reduce the empty kilometres driven by trucks with 24.879 km and the quantity of CO2 with 26 tonnes.

After opening its new warehouse in Mogosoaia in 2016, Alka has started a collaboration with CHEP, the world leader in logistic pallet pooling solutions, in order to simplify and streamline its logistics processes. In doing so, Alka is taking a new step towards modernisation by investing in quality infrastructure.

The need to simplify processes and reduce costs has become more pressing with Alka Group’s organic growth, therefore we have made the decision to hand over management of the pallets to CHEP. The white pallet exchange system is difficult to manage and involves many hidden costs, such as the purchase of new pallets to replace losses or damaged ones, long recovery times, etc. We are convinced that only through specialisation will we be able to perform in a given field. This way, CHEP offers expertise and a more efficient solution in the field of pallet logistics, and Alka will focus on the strategic activity areas – product development, high-standard manufacturing, quality sale and distribution, as well as own brand marketing,” says Ady Hirsch, Alka CEO. Read more here.

Fruit and Vegetable Conference, a Modern Buyer event

At this conference, we presented a case study involving Eisberg Romania, a CHEP partner, to demonstrate the benefits of the pooling system in the fruit and vegetable sector.

In Central and Eastern European countries, CHEP is carrying out a regional project dedicated to this industry, which focuses on gaining as many customers as possible by ensuring an exchange of experience and good practices. In Romania, we are able to please both sides: retailers, on the one hand – who benefit from standardisation and a higher quality of pallets – and their suppliers, be they manufacturers or importers, on the other hand. In addition, these benefit from a much more simplified pallet management process and zero tax exposure with regard to paying contributions to the Environmental Fund.
