Zero Waste World

Environmental Sustainability - Zero Waste World

Working together against waste

Around the world, we have a problem with waste. That’s why we want to move more, with less.

Our Zero Waste World programme will help us make this happen.

Zero Waste World is a global collaboration programme co-creating and delivering zero waste innovation and scalable solutions working with the world’s leading retailers and manufacturers to meet consumer demand in a smarter and more sustainable way.

Fewer resources, more value

Eliminating waste and carbon from supply chains are key challenges facing our industry. Overcoming these shared challenges will take concerted effort and collaboration, and it won’t be easy.

But it is vital, because it’s how the world’s leading companies will thrive and grow while creating value for society as a whole.

There are reasons to engage in the process as soon as possible. Climate change is real. CO2 targets are real. Government regulation is real. The need to act now is real.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does a Zero Waste World initiative work?

Zero Waste World is a new working collaboration for leading companies committed to creating smarter and more sustainable supply chains. We have developed a process to co-create and deliver zero waste innovation and scalable solutions to jointly uncover opportunities through:

    • Ideation sessions to identify compatible needs and assets
    • Collaborative research to understand on the selected topics
    • Prototype or MVP co-creation
    • Co-piloting/testing in real conditions
  • Why a zero Waste World?

At CHEP, we focus on moving more with less.

Last year, we saved 1.8 million trees, 2 million tonnes of CO², 1.3 million tonnes of waste and 2,500 megaliters of water.

Through Zero Waste World, we want to go beyond our core solutions, designing new industry standards and solutions to cope with the big global environmental challenges such as decarbonation, waste eradication and embracing circular economy principles.

  • What is the Zero Waste World Programme?

Zero Waste World is a customer-centric collaboration programme aimed at co-designing and delivering innovative solutions to solve common challenges of waste eradication in transport, packaging and operational processes.

  • Why are you focusing on three Zero Waste topics?

For more than 70 years, CHEP has operated a share and reuse model within supply chains. Our network of partners  have asked us to help beyond our core solutions to address changing consumer demand in a smarter and more sustainable way.

Working with our customers, suppliers and industry groups, we identified three shared focus areas where we could use our network visibility and the power of our logistics platform to:

    1.            Eliminate physical waste – whether that’s food or packaging.

    2.            Eradicate empty transport miles and reduce the carbon intensity of logistics operations.

    3.            Cut out process inefficiency – enhancing visibility and hunting out bottlenecks.

  • Why is CHEP/Brambles a credible partner to collaborate with?

Through our operating business CHEP, Brambles has 70 years of share and re-use model experience  in more than 60 countries globally. We are a global sustainability leader, with ambitious annual goals including reducing wood waste, CO2 emissions and promoting circular economies. We’re very proud to be recognised by many world-leading sustainability indexes, find out more here

We are also very experienced in working with our customers to identify waste-reduction opportunities. For more than four years we have collaborated to cut empty miles and optimise truck fill by using our Reverse Logistics flows. With 230 collaborations in FY20, 7.4 million empty truck kilometres have been saved, representing 6,000 tonnes of CO²  - find out more about our collaborative transport solutions here.

  • What cost is there to participate in the Zero Waste World Programme?

There is no fee to take part in our Zero Waste World Programme. We welcome our customers and trading partners, as well as any companies, institutions or industry bodies willing to make a step change in reducing waste in the supply chain.
