Mike & Mike’s Organics is unique. With a passion for organics and a commitment to sustainability, the company is the only distributor of exclusively certified-organic produce in Ontario that’s not farm-based. Mike & Mike’s delivers more than 200 kinds of organic fruits and vegetables to retailers throughout the province.
When the company was launched in 2004, Mike & Mike’s delivered to independent grocers; organic produce was a specialty item. Today, things have changed. Major Canadian retailers, such as Walmart, Metro and Sobeys, stock and sell organic fruits and vegetables. And, as Mike & Mike’s quickly discovered, major retailers do not like inconsistent, recycled white wood pallets.
“We knew we had to change to exist,” says Marco Capizzo, General Manager, Mike & Mike’s, “but we want to continue to be unique. We’re packaging a premium product and quality is one of our core values.”
After learning more about CHEP’s pooled (shared and reused) business model, Capizzo quickly integrated CHEP’s 48x40 blue pallets into operations and was able to meet a critical December 2017 order to a big-box store.
In March 2015, Mike & Mike’s Organics was named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies. The honor reflects the company’s focus on excellence in everything from products to operations.
“We distribute exclusively certified-organic produce – the best organics from around the world,” Capizzo says. “When you put all that effort into a product, you want to carry that through on transportation. You don’t worry about a CHEP pallet.”
As Mike & Mike’s continues to grow business with major retail chains in Canada, Capizzo says he values the “sustainable relationship” the company has with CHEP.
“CHEP ties in with our goal to be the best at what we do.”
